Field Trip

Field Trip to Illustration House- December 5, 2007

Stepping out of the studio for a change of pace, my first semester illustration students from FIT, took a field trip to the glorious Illustration House, located at 110 W. 25th St. NYC.
The gallery exhibited the Fall 07 auction, featuring the Cream of Wheat Advertising Art. Among the vintage paintings were works by James Montgomery Flagg, Jessie Willcox Smith, Joseph Leyendecker, to name a few. There were other illustrations by the likes of Al Hirschfeld, Al Parker,
Maxfield Parrish, Bob Peak, Howard Pyle, Norman Rockwell, Saul Steinberg, even Edward Gorey.

But the biggest treat was a personalized lecture by the Walt Reed, who not only is the founder of Illustration House, but the author of The Illustrator In America 1860-2000 which keeps record of the history of illustration in this country. Highly recommended to any library that features illustration.
You can purchase this book by visiting Illustration House or e-mailing them.

I want to say Thank You Walter Reed and Illustration House for the very inspirational lecture. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit.

Love the figure drawings! And the photos from the field trip. Walt Reed is the man. You should try and make it to the drawing sessions at the Society on Tuesday.

I would love too, I wish I didn't live so far. This semester is nearly over, wow how fast was that!
Walt is a wonderful scholar and gentleman. Everyone has an inspirational time.
Illustration house is an Icon! (as well as Society of Illustrators).
Thanks for posting Chad!
