It was fun and a bit exhausting to hang a show. Most of my work was from the last 5 years of illustrating for various clients. Fantastic Art Show

 Pixelated: The Art of Digital Illustration July 21 - Dec. 9, 2012 Opening Reception: 5:30-8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 3, 2012

Pixelated:

The Art of Digital Illustration will bring 27 illustrations by the most widely recognized and awarded illustrators working today to the Low Illustration Gallery at the New Britain Museum of American Art from July 21–December 9. Curated by Scott Bakal, an accomplished award winning illustrator and professor at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, the exhibition will open a window into the world of the modern illustrator and the tools and techniques that have transformed the face of illustration in the 21st century. Collectively, the artists participating in Pixelated: The Art of Digital Illustration have been the makers of some of the most recognizable images in today’s visual culture. The exhibition will feature an interactive display with digital galleries and video reels of artists’ portfolios to extend viewing opportunities. By providing a glimpse into artists’ creative use of digital media, Pixelated: The Art of Digital Illustration celebrates the intersections between art and technology to showcase the exciting possibilities of contemporary illustration.

Pink Head Series with Wiener Dogs

"Tears" 16x 20 acrylic on wood -------- Finally scanned in "Tears" part of the pink head series. It's an acrylic painting on wood panel. I have since moved on to making some linocuts/ mono-prints along this theme. Just playing with the shapes and concepts. I just love drawing figures in various states of flexibility.

Meanwhile this weekend Zoe was my delightful house guest. She's a 12 year old red smooth dachshund, who also had back surgery too, about 2 years ago. Zoe's recovery was much more successful then my Cookies surgery. I enjoyed having 2 doxies. Only the barking was the down fall. When one dog barked the other will join in, a frenzy of neurotic madness, and Zoe was starting to miss her parents and her brother (human). I played relaxing ambient music, it did help.

Pink Face Series continues....

"Can I Park Here?" acrylic on wood panels, diptych 2012 * pink head series

I’ve been continuing on my series involving highly flexible women and aloof pink men’s heads. I finally finished up the diptych titled “Can I Park Here.”
I created the sketches back in January when I was out in San Francisco, there are more from my trip that are still in the works. It’s been a series that I’ve been kicking around since the fall. A friend was visiting and he asked my WHY ? Do we artists have to explain our work to make sense to the viewer? I’ve always been a part of the school that invites the viewer’s participation.

Anyway when pressed I guess the “sexual” nature of the series is just a female point of view. God knows we have enough men’s point of views of female sexuality. (Am I right Women?)
Perhaps the flexible women twist according to their aloof man. LOL I also liked the stubbly beard on the guy on the left, rather then the clean-shaven guy who is flipped. The woman is more “on top” of him, with belly touching, more engagement?

Anyway a few more paintings are in the works, and a bunch of linocuts as well.


My biggest fan naps in the studio corner. Cookie my elderly crippled dachshund.

Cookie is still the powerhouse that she always was, now at 14 ! She tends to sleep a lot these days. Older dogs snore, it’s rather endearing. Big heart Cookie.

New "Pink Faces" Works

I am still exploring this theme of the "yoga" lady on the pink face. She's so flexible and playful, and sexy. She dances and bends and twists on "his" face.
I am not sure why it's been taking off this way? I just want to keep exploring the possibilities. Meanwhile winter is pretty much non-existent this year.
Grateful really! Hate trying to dig my car out of snow piles for alternate street parking rules.

Pass the coffee

My 'Mask' painting got into CA Illustration Annual, due out May/June 2012.
The same piece got in to SOI LA 50. To be exhibited at Nucleus Gallery in late March.

More this past month, well I've gotten a turkish coffee pot. Lets just say my gas range top is not as clean as it use to be.
The the coffee grinds spill out. It's a bit of a tricky process. Labor intensive, you must watch the brew slightly foam and repeat but not to any boiling point.


Before the stove top got messy.

As a lefty, I've found so many kitchen utensils don't operate smoothly in my paws... same goes for the turkish pot. Totally designed for a right hand domination.
So the spillage is frequent.

The coffee is delicious. Very flavorful, and I like mine black no sugar.

I've been toying around with imagery of faces and figures, especially figures doing yoga poses.
Yoga lady creates facial hair on the dude. I've been working on a series so stay tuned.

Bits & Pieces of September 2010

SVA Gallery- Where's my Vote Sept 16, 2010

Where's my Vote Show concluded with a show at SVA Gallery. This show invited designers and illustrators to create posters that address the "election" held in Iran in June 09 where over a million votes disappeared begging the question "Where's MY Vote?". Read more.


A day spent at Inga Poslitur's studio

I was invited to Inga Poslitur's studio where she did an ink wash portrait of me. I was delighted. Thanks Inga!
We drew and ate a delicious lunch, tea and smoothies with bee pollen. (healthy!)

Driving Without Destination

My piece "Miles of Uniformity" will be exhibited at Seton University for a show titled "Driving without Destination."
The opening reception will be Thursday September 16th from 6-9 pm.

The show will run till October 2th with a closing symposium featuring guest speakers Father Ian Boyd, C.S.B., editor of the Chesterton Review and President of the G.K. Chesterton Institute for Faith and Culture and Dermot Quinn, Ph.D, Professor of History at Seton Hall University. 2pm to 4pm.

Artist Statement:
As I stepped off the airplane into the terminal, I was excited and egar to see what lies before me, after traveling into a new hemisphere waiting to experience a different culture. What I was immediately assaulted with was a familiar “golden arches” along with more logo recognizing.
Unique cultures have been overtaken by large corporations who’ve created a homogeneous visual landscape. There seems to be nothing unique anymore.
My piece addresses this very landscape, with familiar logos running throughout the piece. The figures are flipped to graphically depict distance and “far away places.” One can never know what was lost if one never seen otherwise.

Something for the wall.

Last Thursday Evening I was humbled and honored to receive by the Town of Brookhaven a Woman's Recognition Award in the area of Visual & Preforming Arts. Other awardees received awards in areas of Education, Community Service, Volunteer, Government, Business Science, etc. I was humbled to hear their stories and what they have contributed to the community. The only artist, I was deeply honored to be considered. My illustrations decorated the poster and the program, after I spoke the audience made that connection. Afterward many business cards were exchanged. It was a thrilling night and I was extremely grateful.
Thanks friends and family for supporting me.
